10 Errors when brushing your teeth

September 14, 2017 by nbaticke

Daily brushing is something we have so automated and tucked into our daily routine (or should) that we almost never think about it. However, doing it the right way is a key part of our oral health, preventing the onset of cavities and gum disease.

Do not choose the right tool.

Certainly a proper toothbrush is essential. Think about the size of your mouth. If you have to make some kind of effort by opening it to make the brush fit, it may be too big for you. It is logical that the more comfortable you are, the more likely you are to use it frequently.

You should also consider the bristles since there are several types of hardness. Usually the hardest are discouraged as you can damage the soft tissues of your mouth with them.

Electric or manual? Well it is a matter of taste.

Do not use enough time.

How many times a day do you brush your teeth? The advice is two or three times a day (better three than two, but daily life is imposed and most of the time is complicated).

How long? Well, at least two minutes. Most people fall short on this issue. As advice you can divide your mouth into four sections and employ in each one about 30 seconds.

Some electric brushes have timers that can help you in perfect timing.

Spend time

Brushing your teeth more than three times a day can be as harmful as not doing it because with so much brushing through our enamel and gums in the end we run the risk of end up damaging them, achieving just what we wanted to avoid.

Do it anyway.

Long horizontal strokes across the row of teeth can damage the gums. Hold the brush at a 45 ° angle to the brush and make a top to bottom movement using short brush strokes.

Not only does it matter what you see, but also what you cannot see, that is, the brushing comprises the inner and outer parts of the teeth, the molars of the back and the tongue. Think that where you do not get the plate will have the opportunity to settle and cause future problems.

Boredom

It will seem silly to you but being routine, we put the autopilot mentally and we almost do not realize what we are doing. We always start from the same site and end up in the same place.

This makes the part that we normally clean in the last place is already a bit boring and wanting to finish, which is never as good as the first with which we started. To do this change the starting place of your brushing from time to time.

Do not hit with toothpaste.

Keep in mind that whitening products or those that control tartar can be very hard for the teeth if they are used very frequently. To avoid this, you can alternate with the classic pasta with fluoride of the whole life and the whitener so as not to expose so continuously the enamel to processes too abrasive.

Do not control acidity

It’s not that we become chemicals now, but if you take acidic things like energy drinks, sodas, juices, etc. You are attacking the enamel of your teeth. Nothing happens (if consumed in a normal way) because the saliva is saturated with calcium and phosphorus ions that repair any damage.

But for that to happen you have to leave at least half an hour for it to happen and do not brush your teeth immediately afterwards , since what we will do is attack with the brush an enamel that is in the process of restoration and we will annoy you even more.

Rinse the brush after brushing.

Most of us do it but it is more important than it seems. The germs of the mouth and the teeth can remain in it and also the excess toothpaste hardens the bristles. It is best to rinse and put it to dry in the air, avoiding to keep it wet for a long time.

Do not keep it away from other brushes.

Although hygienically the bathroom is not the cleanest place in the house, the truth is that we all keep our toothbrushes there. At least, if there are several of us at home, let the brushes touch each other.

If you travel use a cover that allows air to enter so that it does not stay wet for a long time.

Do not change it in time

Every 3 or 4 months we should change toothbrushes. A good way to control what is necessary for the change is in the sows, if they begin to lose flexibility and the form is no longer the one that should, it is time to change.
