Toothpaste for young children, better without fluoride

The oral hygiene of our children begins even before the appearance of the first tooth, but it will be around two years when we start using a toothpaste to brush our teeth. The most suitable toothpaste for young children should be without fluoride. This way we avoid the risks of the little ones swallowing the pasta.

In children under six years of age, excess fluoride may cause mild fluorosis, an abnormality of the oral cavity, especially of teeth, where spots may appear, even with long-term effects. The intake of fluoride in young children could result in the final teeth leaving mottled or discolored.

Therefore it is best to use special toothpastes for children, made with natural ingredients and without fluoride. Always read the composition and use advice to check that they specifically indicate that they are adapted for timely intake by the baby.

As we say, between 12 and 18 months you can start using a special toothbrush for children, and after 2 years we can introduce a small amount of toothpaste.

Remember that most likely they end up swallowing toothpaste, out of curiosity and because they do not know how to spit yet, so the amount of pasta has to be minimal, even if it does not contain fluoride.

Little by little we can increase the amount of toothpaste, although the important thing is not the quantity (rather it is to make brushing teeth more attractive to children), but the quality and frequency of brushing.

Finally, after six years of age, when they begin to have the final teeth, do not swallow the toothpaste and have improved the technique of brushing with our help and supervision, they can use without problems the toothpastes with fluoride that incorporate the anti-caries action.
